What is One Ward One Project?
One Ward One Project is presented as a proposed community-based development initiative designed to support one viable and sustainable livelihood or enterprise project in every participating ward. It combines local assessment, skills development, enterprise support, market access, monitoring and a sustainability plan.
How many people will benefit from each ward?
The programme is designed to support 100 direct beneficiaries per ward, with a target of 50 men and 50 women. Special attention will be given to youth, women, people facing economic disadvantage and other underserved groups.
Where will the initiative begin?
The initiative is intended to begin across wards in all Local Government Areas, states and geopolitical zones in Nigeria, subject to applicable approvals, stakeholder consultations, available resources and final implementation arrangements.
How will projects be selected?
Projects will be selected through community consultation, local skills and resource mapping, market assessment and technical review. The objective is to identify projects that are locally relevant, economically viable and capable of creating sustainable livelihoods.
Which sectors are eligible?
Potential sectors include agriculture and agro-processing, food and household enterprises, textiles and artisan production, construction and technical trades, digital and creative services, and other commercially viable activities identified through local assessment.
Is participation limited to young people?
The primary target age range is 18 to 45 years. However, flexibility may be applied for experienced or skilled older participants where their participation is appropriate to the selected trade or enterprise.
How will beneficiaries be selected?
Beneficiary selection will use clear and publicly communicated criteria, including demonstrated interest in the selected trade, commitment to training, residence or strong community connection, willingness to participate in monitoring and potential to sustain a productive enterprise.
How can an organisation support the initiative?
Organisations may support the initiative through financing, technical training, equipment or starter assets, market linkages, monitoring, research, communications, enterprise development, finance or credit linkages, or sponsorship of ward-level projects.
Has nationwide implementation begun?
National-level rollout preparations have commenced, including training involving selected state and zonal coordinators and the establishment of national, zonal and state coordination arrangements. Wider implementation remains subject to applicable approvals, consultations, resources and final implementation agreements.
